Berlin, 06 June 2026
Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) and Brandenburg's Minister-President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) have agreed to have a joint concept drawn up for a bid to host the World Exposition 2035, with the goal of presenting a coordinated basis for decision-making from both states by October 2026 at the latest.
Wegner had communicated the current status in a letter to Berlin's Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) and to Finance Senator Stefan Evers (CDU), which is available to the German Press Agency (dpa) and was first reported by the "Tagesspiegel." In the letter, he requested a "zeitnahe Kontaktaufnahme zu den brandenburgischen Kolleginnen und Kollegen, um die notwendigen nächsten Schritte und Arbeitsformate abzustimmen".
