Berlin-Hamburg Route: Nighttime Closures for Remaining Works

The background to the renewed closures is the general overhaul of the Berlin–Hamburg route, which had been extensively modernized in the past months. After completion of the main works and the resumption of full operation, further defects emerged upon more detailed inspections and now need to be rectified.

According to the railway spokesperson, the remaining works include, in addition to remedying the identified remaining defects, various optimizations to the infrastructure. The goal is to further improve the quality and reliability of operations on the important north-south connection.

Travelers must prepare for altered timetables. Deutsche Bahn recommends checking current connections before starting the journey. Trains affected by the nighttime closures will be rerouted or replaced by buses.

The Berlin–Hamburg route is one of the most important connections in the German rail network. Every day, thousands of commuters and travelers use the connection between the two metropolises. Any disruption therefore has a direct impact on business and leisure travel.

Schedule of the Closures

Deutsche Bahn emphasizes that the closures are deliberately placed in the low-traffic nighttime hours. This is intended to ensure that regular daytime traffic remains largely undisturbed. Nevertheless, travel times may be extended in individual cases.

The nighttime closures exclusively affect the period between approximately 10 PM and 6 AM. During the day, the route is to be usable without restrictions. Travelers are asked to observe the current timetable notices from Deutsche Bahn.
