Washington, 21 August 2026

The Bitcoin price has risen by approximately 20 percent in recent days, supported by a significantly expanded purchase program by the US Treasury for long-term government bonds.

The US Treasury announced that it would double the volume of its buyback operations for US Treasury bonds with maturities between ten and 30 years: Instead of a maximum of two billion dollars, at least four billion dollars per transaction will be deployed starting 9 September.

The decision from Washington is seen as a signal for a looser liquidity policy and supports the thesis that risky assets such as cryptocurrencies see increased demand in such an environment. On the futures markets, open positions on Bitcoin futures have recently risen noticeably.
