BMW is shrinking its top management by around one fifth and reorganizing its uppermost leadership level, as the carmaker headquartered in Munich announced.

BMW is consolidating its top leadership tier by approximately one fifth and closely tying the move to the previously announced global reduction of 8,000 jobs. The group said the reduction of management positions is explicitly part of this already communicated overall package and is not an additional measure. According to the company, the aim is to streamline structures and shorten decision-making paths.

Background: previously announced cost-cutting course

The background to the restructuring is a deep-reaching cost-cutting program that the company had already initiated months ago. Within this framework, a total of around 8,000 jobs worldwide are to be cut, distributed across various divisions and hierarchy levels. According to the group, the now announced reduction of top management is not a separate program, but a consistent implementation within this already decided overall reduction.
