Dresden, June 01, 2026

The 28-year-old defender Lars Bünning of second-division club Dynamo Dresden suffered a brain hemorrhage without external influence and had to undergo life-saving emergency surgery.

As the club announced on Monday, the bleeding occurred spontaneously. Bünning was immediately taken to a hospital and operated on there. According to the club, the procedure went very well.

"Lars Bünning is fully conscious and is currently continuing to receive intensive medical care," the official statement said. Further information on his health status and rehabilitation will be announced by the club in close coordination with the family.

"Absolute moment of shock" for the club

Managing Director of Sport Sören Gonther was deeply affected. "The news was an absolute moment of shock for us. In situations like these, football completely fades into the background, because nothing is more valuable than health," he explained.
