During his previous loan, Sterner had already played a significant role in Dynamo's promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with two goals and eight assists. In the past season, Dresden was among the four best teams in the second division in the second half of the campaign – a result in which the right-back had, according to the club, played a decisive role.

The transfer is the next building block in extensive squad planning at Dresden. Just a few hours earlier, the club had announced the signing of Tobias Raschl, who moves to the Saxon state capital from second-division relegated side Preußen Münster.

Raschl as sixth new signing

The 26-year-old midfielder brings the experience of 83 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga and is the sixth new signing of the current transfer window. „Wir haben schnell gemerkt, dass ein gemeinsamer Weg sehr reizvoll ist. Umso leichter fiel mir dann die Entscheidung. Jetzt freue ich mich, die Mannschaft und das Umfeld schnellstmöglich kennenzulernen, um dann gemeinsam eine erfolgreiche Saison zu spielen“, sagte Raschl.

Gonther described Raschl as another building block for the central midfield. „Mit der Erfahrung und Qualität von Tobi konnten wir einen weiteren Baustein für unsere Mittelfeldzentrale sichern. Mit seiner Laufstärke und Variabilität hat er sich über bereits viele Jahre in der 2. Bundesliga etabliert und kann für uns von Beginn an eine Verstärkung sein. Wir blicken mit großer Vorfreude auf die gemeinsame Zeit“, sagte der Sportgeschäftsführer.

Squad planning in the state capital

With this move, the Saxons continue along their chosen path of selectively strengthening the squad. Following Robert Wagner, the Saxons have now also signed Jonas Sterner permanently, while Nicolai Rapp and Simon Straudi had previously been brought in as well.

For Sterner, the permanent move to Dresden means above all continuity. After two loan spells, he can for the first time complete a full pre-season with the Black and Yellows and optimally prepare for the new campaign – a circumstance the club explicitly highlighted.
