The U.S. fast-food chain Burger King wants to resume its expansion course in Germany — postponed during the corona pandemic and inflation — and grow significantly with its own portfolio as well as with franchisees, as Germany chief Andreas Bork announced.
Burger King Germany currently has 760 restaurants, according to Andreas Bork. The Germany chief did not name a concrete target figure for new openings in the coming years. "We want to grow ourselves with our own restaurant portfolio and with our franchisees, and significantly so," said Bork. Most locations are operated by franchisees who run the concept independently.
Postponed Plans and Economic Tailwind
The parent company had postponed the planned expansion in Germany because of the corona pandemic and inflation. "The corona pandemic and inflation meant difficult times for the restaurant industry. Burger King therefore postponed the planned expansion in Germany." The U.S. chain now wants to make up for that, Bork explained. Cost increases have since calmed down: "I would say it has calmed down now, but there were a few really rough years."
