British Prime Minister Andy Burnham welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday in Portsmouth as the first foreign guest of his term in office, announcing new military support as well as a licence for domestic production of the "Stone Cloak" drone protection system.

At the naval base in the southern English port city of Portsmouth, in the shadow of the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, a symbolically charged meeting took place on Monday: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was the first international guest received by the new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham in his office. According to the British government, the choice of first visitor underscores the special importance London attaches to its partnership with Kyiv. Burnham himself stated that the choice of visitor had been no coincidence, adding that Britain wished to send a clear message that it stood "100 percent" alongside Ukraine.
