Fribourg, 28 May 2026
Canada defeated the United States 4-0 in the quarterfinal of the Ice Hockey World Championship in Fribourg, Switzerland, on Thursday, while Finland advanced with a 4-1 win over Czechia in Zurich.
Canada's Dominant Performance
The record world champion delivered a commanding performance against the defending title holders, avenging an overtime loss to the Americans in the Winter Olympics final in Milan just three months earlier. The rosters for both nations were completely different from that Olympic matchup.
Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring for Canada on a power play in the 19th minute. The 19-year-old captain, who plays for the San Jose Sharks in the NHL, gave his team a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
