The aid organization CARE has introduced a new emergency package that, with around 40 essential goods, can supply four people for approximately one month and is set to be deployed in Malawi, among other places.
The CARE emergency package is aimed at families and communities suddenly affected by crises such as floods, droughts, or displacement. According to the organization, it contains around 40 essential goods. These include tarpaulins and ropes for building emergency shelters, water containers and water purification products, cooking utensils, hygiene items, and solar lamps.
From Canned Food Package to Survival Kit
Compared to the famous CARE package sent around 80 years ago after the Second World War, the contents have changed fundamentally. Back then, the focus was primarily on food items such as canned goods. Today, it also centers on clean drinking water, light, and protection from the elements – three things that, according to CARE, often mean the difference between life and death in modern crises.
