Carinthia, July 5, 2026
The Carinthischer Sommer launched on Saturday in Carinthia with a ceremonial act followed by an opening concert, beginning its edition of this year, which runs for one month under the motto "Orient and Occident."
To mark the start of the festival, State Governor Daniel Fellner (SPÖ), Cultural Affairs Councillor Gabriele Schaunig (SPÖ), and State Secretary Sepp Schellhorn (Neos) spoke at the ceremonial act before the opening concert. Fellner emphasized the bridging function of art and culture. The festival radiates outward from Carinthia for one month this year, as was noted at the opening.
Schaunig thanked the Carinthischer Sommer for "das Gefühl der grenzenlosen Regionalität." With this formulation, she underscored the festival's aspiration to have an impact beyond local and national borders. Schellhorn described culture as the "niederschwelligste Form der Diplomatie" and thus placed the program within a broader foreign-policy and social-policy context.
