At the CDU state party convention at the Düsseldorfer Maritim Hotel, the North Rhine-Westphalian Union reaffirmed its support for the reform package agreed upon by the black-red coalition the previous week and backed Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Backing for the Reform Course

The state party convention of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia was entirely dedicated to the reform package that the leaders of the CDU, CSU, and SPD had agreed on the previous Wednesday. The package comprises 34 reform steps, including tax relief for lower and middle incomes, a pension reform, a reform of the statutory health insurance system, and the reduction of bureaucracy. Minister-President Hendrik Wüst, who opened the convention as state party chairman, expressly praised the work of the CDU parliamentary group in the Bundestag and thanked his colleagues for their efforts in the past weeks.
