Berlin's Charité has confirmed that data belonging to patients and employees was stolen following a cyberattack.
Charité has published information about the consequences of a cyberattack. According to company reports, data belonging to patients and employees was stolen. The institution now faces the task of reviewing access to its systems and assessing the possible consequences.
The Berlin hospital proactively took its website offline the previous week. The trigger was a security vulnerability in the PHP programming language. This measure was intended to prevent attackers from exploiting the vulnerability.
No connection to the PHP vulnerability
According to Charité, the hacker attack was unrelated to the PHP security vulnerability. In doing so, the institution ruled out an initially plausible connection between the technical vulnerability and the data leak.
