Charles Spencer makes serious allegations in connection with the death of his sister Diana

During the course of these telephone calls, the account escalated: from an incident initially described as minor, to a broken foot, to a possible head injury, and finally to the news of her death. This gradual intensification of the news forms a central element of his criticism.

Escalation over the course of the calls

Spencer used the occasion to sharply criticize the handling of his family. According to the available reports, he described his sister Diana as "eine Ware" – an expression intended to illustrate the anger and disappointment over the treatment in the context of the accident and the subsequent reporting.

The remarks come at a time when the public debate over the circumstances of Diana's death has been ongoing for years. Spencer had already repeatedly voiced criticism in earlier interviews, including criticism of the media and representatives of the royal family.

An expression of personal anger

The precise circumstances under which the family was informed about Diana's condition at the time have been the subject of investigations and journalistic research since the accident. Spencer's current statements now add a new, personal voice to this debate.

Previous reports on the incidents had repeatedly addressed the role of various parties involved, including questions about the responsibility of specific individuals and institutions in the time surrounding the accident. Spencer now explicitly addressed the impression that his sister had been treated like an object.

According to the available reports, reactions to Spencer's statement were mixed. While some observers highlighted the emotional tone of the remarks, others pointed to the need to distinguish between established facts and interpretations when assessing the past.

Reactions and open questions

According to the reports, Spencer himself reiterated that he continues to push for a complete clarification of the circumstances. The descriptions of his calls at the time, which gradually increased in urgency, are intended, in his view, to help complete the picture of the events.

The dispute over Diana, her family, and the circumstances of her death thus remains a prominent topic in British public life. Spencer's remarks, including the reference to Diana having been "nur eine Ware," are likely to continue to be discussed.

Overall, the available reports paint the picture of a family member who, even decades after his sister's death, has still not come to terms with the events of that time. His criticism is directed both at the manner in which information was conveyed and at the fundamental way Diana was treated.

At this point, it remains to be seen whether Spencer's statements will trigger new investigations or a renewed public review of the events. What is clear is that the brother's voice carries considerable weight in the debate over Diana and the circumstances of her death.
