Three biological children of Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have initiated legal steps in California in recent weeks to officially drop their father Pitt's surname.
Legal steps in California
The 21-year-old Zahara and the 24-year-old Maddox published corresponding notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, as People and USA Today magazines reported, citing court documents. According to the reports, they wish to bear the names Zahara Marley Jolie and Maddox Chivan Jolie in the future. Shiloh, born in Namibia in 2006, had also filed a petition in 2024 at age 18 with a court in Los Angeles to drop her father's surname. This means that three of the six children of Hollywood's former dream couple have now formally relinquished the name Pitt.
The US celebrity portal TMZ reported that Zahara had published her request once a week over a period of four weeks in the trade journal Los Angeles Daily Journal. This is required under California law before a judge can rule on a name change. In the notices, persons wishing to object to the change were urged to file written objections before the final hearing. Otherwise, the court may grant the petition.
According to the available court documents, Zahara's final hearing is scheduled for Monday, September 28. Further hearing dates in September are also planned for Maddox and Shiloh. If no objections are received by then, the judges could make the name changes legally effective in the same month. The procedure is considered a routine matter in California provided there are no objections.
