Germany returned 40 convicted criminals from Leipzig/Halle to Kabul, Afghanistan, on October 28, 2026, in a collective deportation.

The return took place as part of a collective deportation from Leipzig/Halle Airport to Kabul. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, 40 people classified as convicted criminals were deported from Germany in the process.

Ten federal states were involved. The Ministry of Baden-Württemberg, along with Bavaria, Hamburg and Hesse, also named Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt as participating states.

Ten states take part

The joint operation illustrates that responsibility for deportations can be organized across several state borders. The federal government and the states apparently work together to enforce their respective migration policies.
