Starting in July, the Cologne Cathedral will charge an entrance fee of twelve euros for adult visitors who wish to tour the structure for tourism purposes, while religious services will continue to be freely accessible.
The Cologne Cathedral is one of Germany's most visited attractions, drawing millions of people annually. From July, adult visitors will have to pay twelve euros to enter the church, as reported by WDR, citing the Cathedral Chapter. The regulation applies exclusively to tourist visits of the building.
The Cathedral Chapter, the body responsible for the administration of the cathedral, has decided to introduce the fee. According to the broadcaster, sources for the information include a WDR reporter on site as well as the Dean of Cologne. It was not immediately announced exactly when within the month of July the ticket offices will begin operating.
