The Austrian government on Friday presented a compromise on drought aid and the Climate Neutrality Act, which it itself described as a milestone and which is intended to defuse the ongoing farmers' protests.
Agreement After Days of Protests
The agreement was reached after intensive negotiations between the government, the Economic Chamber and farming representatives. Economics Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer spoke of a "breakthrough" that brings together the interests of domestic agriculture and industry. The Federation of Austrian Industries (IV) and the Chamber of Agriculture welcomed the compromise in principle, but open questions remained.
