Vienna, August 12, 2026
After the armed robbery of the Vienna auction house Dorotheum in the Währing district, the confessed perpetrator has been taken into pretrial detention.
The robbery took place on the afternoon of August 12, 2026, at the Dorotheum branch in Vienna-Währing. According to the investigating authorities, an armed man entered the auction house and made off with jewelry before leaving the crime scene.
Because a possible hostage situation was feared, the police deployed a large contingent of officers from Cobra, WEGA, and the service dog unit, cordoning off the area around the crime scene over a wide radius.
Large Police Deployment
The manhunt initially lasted several hours, as the perpetrator was initially able to flee and apparently hid in the vicinity of the crime scene. Special units searched the surrounding district, and residents were urged to stay in their homes.
