Copenhagen at the top
Copenhagen also leads the ranking in the 2026 edition of the Global Liveability Index. In the categories of Stability, Education, and Infrastructure, the Danish capital received the top score of 100 points in each, according to the EIU. The EIU is a consultancy firm that belongs to the same group as The Economist magazine. The ranking in question is the "Global Liveability Index" of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a consultancy firm that belongs to the same group as the magazine of the same name.
A total of 173 cities are evaluated based on 30 indicators across five categories. In addition to Stability, Education, and Infrastructure, these include Healthcare as well as Culture and Environment. Western Europe remains the world's most livable region with an average score of 91.7 points, even though the region's Stability score has been depressed since 2024 due to terror threats, a rising crime rate, and xenophobia.
