Crown Prince Haakon has said Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway is recovering steadily after receiving a new lung last month, though she remains in hospital under continued treatment.
Crown Prince Haakon offered a health update on his wife during a public appearance, saying her condition is heading in the right direction. Asked how the Crown Princess was doing, he replied: "Zum Glück läuft es jetzt immer besser, worüber wir uns sehr freuen." The remark is the most detailed public signal so far that the 52-year-old is on a positive trajectory following the transplant.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit was diagnosed in 2018 with chronic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition in which scar tissue forms in the lungs and gradually impairs breathing. Her health deteriorated markedly over the past six months, prompting doctors to list her for a new lung. She underwent the transplant last month at a specialist clinic, where Haakon said she received excellent care. He added, in remarks carried by Norwegian media: "Sie wurde von sehr kompetenten und talentierten Mitarbeitern des Teams dort hervorragend betreut."
