The cruise ship "Scarlet Lady" made an unscheduled stop at the Greek port of Souda in Crete on Friday after Turkey and Egypt had denied the ship entry due to its predominantly LGBTQ passengers.

On board the ship, chartered for a one-month cruise, are around 1,860 passengers and 1,139 crew members, according to Greek broadcaster ERT. The trip is organized by the US travel company Atlantis Events. The "Scarlet Lady" had been unable to make its originally planned calls in Turkey and Egypt.
The Turkish authorities prohibited the entry with reference to the country's "moral values." Egypt also denied the ship access to its ports, according to the report. This meant two scheduled stops of the trip were dropped, without the shipping line initially announcing a replacement.
