Crystal Palace: Pierre Sage succeeds Oliver Glasner

The Glasner era

Glasner, a 51-year-old from Upper Austria, had led the "Eagles" to the first major titles in the club's 121-year history. In May he won the FA Cup, the Community Shield and the UEFA Conference League with the club. These achievements made the club from south London known beyond England's borders.

Sage himself expressed his enthusiasm for his new role at his presentation. "Es ist fantastisch, hier bei Crystal Palace zu sein. Deshalb kommen wir mit großen Ambitionen hierher", said Sage. He added: "Ich bin begeistert von der Geschichte des Vereins und den Leistungen der letzten Saisonen."

At the same time, the new coach formulated the ambition to build on his predecessor's success. "Oliver Glasner hat Unglaubliches geleistet, und jetzt muss ich es ihm gleichtun", said Sage. He described the dynamic at the club as "wirklich positiv" and announced: "Wir haben letztes Jahr gewonnen – und wir wollen so weitermachen, in einem neuen Verein, einem neuen Projekt, aber mit vielen Siegergewohnheiten."

Sportingly, Sage faces a demanding task. In the past Premier League season, Crystal Palace finished only 15th in the table. The squad comprises 29 players, with Allan Saint-Maximin the most recent signing. The team's total market value stands at 234.60 million euros – significantly less than RC Lens, which comes in at 553 million euros.

Situation heading into the new season

Under Glasner the club most recently had 30 players in the squad, with the last transfer being Jørgen Strand Larsen. The revenues from the Conference League, the FA Cup and the Community Shield had expanded the financial possibilities, but the day-to-day sporting reality in the Premier League remains fiercely competitive.

With Sage, Crystal Palace is signing a coach who has proven in France that he can lead a team to titles in a short space of time. His move to London marks the next step in a coaching career that has so far mainly taken place in Ligue 1. For the "Eagles", a new era begins after the successful Glasner era.

The official confirmation from the club is still pending, but several English and French media outlets had already reported consistently on the personnel matter. Crystal Palace is currently preparing for the coming season, in which the club will compete internationally in the UEFA Conference League.
