The English Premier League club Crystal Palace has appointed Pierre Sage as new head coach, thereby settling the succession of the Austrian successful coach Oliver Glasner.

Move from France

Sage comes from French top-flight club RC Lens, which he had only taken over the previous summer. In 40 matches under his leadership, the team averaged 2.2 points and led the club to its first major title since the 1998 championship. With the Ligue 1 club, he currently sits second in the table. His contract in Lens ran until 30 June 2028.

According to media reports, Crystal Palace is paying three million euros for Sage, with a further two million potentially added through bonus payments. The 47-year-old, born on 5 May 1979, is regarded as a rising French coach and succeeds Glasner, who had left Crystal Palace at his own request.
