The Christopher Street Day parades trace back to events in New York in 1969. At that time, police stormed the "Stonewall Inn" bar on Christopher Street. The raid triggered an uprising by gay, lesbian, and transgender people that is considered groundbreaking for today's movement for LGBTIQ rights and is internationally regarded as the beginning of the annual commemoration of this day.
