CSD in Eberswalde marches through the city under heightened police protection – right-wing counter-demonstration accompanies the parade

In parallel to the CSD, a counter-rally took place that, according to police, had been registered by the group "Deutsche Patrioten voran." About 50 participants took part in the protest march, according to a police spokesperson. Brandenburg's Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies "Deutsche Patrioten voran" in its latest report as part of the violence-oriented subcultural neo-Nazis, who are active on social media and seek to recruit young members. Political parties and initiatives had already pointed to the threat situation in advance.

Counter-demonstration from the right-wing scene

Before the start of the CSD, an incident occurred according to police: When a participant of the counter-demonstration took photos, a CSD participant objected. He is said to have struck the counter-rally visitor on the arm. Police are investigating the case.

Maximilian Armonies from the CSD organization Eberswalde said before the event: "Beim CSD setzen wir ein Statement für Vielfalt, Akzeptanz und Solidarität." He added: "Wir stehen für Zusammenhalt innerhalb der Community. Wir stehen für Vielfalt, Akzeptanz und Toleranz." The CSD is intended to remind people of the rights of queer people.

Voices from politics and the event

There was also support from state politics: Brandenburg's SPD General Secretary Kurt Fischer wrote on Instagram: "Seid gemeinsam laut für Vielfalt, Akzeptanz und Solidarität." Interior Minister Jan Redmann (CDU) stated that police had prevented violent crimes in Frankfurt (Oder) and that investigations had been conducted into unconstitutional symbols.

Background: Attack on alliance the previous year

The background to the heightened security measures is an attack on a rally of the alliance "Bad Freienwalde ist bunt" in June 2025, when a group of partly masked men attacked the event in the nearby small town. Political parties and initiatives spoke at the time of a right-wing extremist attack. As a result, the CSD in Eberswalde was under increased police protection. As early as the end of May, demonstrators in Frankfurt (Oder) had turned out against a CSD.

Nationwide, counter-demonstrations from the right-wing scene against Christopher Street Days occur repeatedly, as the report shows. In Eberswalde, however, on Saturday according to police there was only the incident mentioned; the CSD itself proceeded peacefully.

The organizers were satisfied with the course of events. They said they had been able to set a strong signal for an open society. Police announced that the investigations into the incident with the camera and the proceedings regarding unconstitutional symbols would be continued.
