The commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck suffered a sharp drop in profit in the first quarter and attributes this to weak business in North America.

Background on the Group

Revenue in the industrial business, i.e., excluding financial services, had risen by 6 percent in the second quarter, as already known. However, the operating return on sales (EBIT margin) adjusted for special items in that segment fell by 2.4 percentage points to 6.8 percent.

The company, headquartered in Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart, attributed the decline to weak demand in North America. "This was due to the weak North America business," the company said. Daimler Truck is one of the world's largest manufacturers of trucks and buses and is one of the DAX-listed corporations.
