In the district of Neusiedl am See in northern Burgenland, plans are reportedly taking shape for a data center with a capacity of nearly 200 megawatts, for which a grid connection request has been submitted to Netz Burgenland GmbH.
In recent weeks, several requests for power connections for large data centers have become known in northern Burgenland. According to matching reports, inquiries with a capacity of approximately 200 megawatts are being directed to the regional grid operator Netz Burgenland GmbH. Projects with a capacity exceeding that threshold, on the other hand, are being directed straight to Austrian Power Grid (APG) as the supra-regional transmission system operator.
The reports are based, among other things, on indications from Burgenland state politics, according to which municipal representatives are looking into possible sites. A site in the municipality of Nickelsdorf on the border with Hungary was reportedly named. Similar large-scale projects are currently being reviewed in other federal states such as Lower Austria and Vienna.
