The Deutsche Schutzvereinigung für Wertpapierbesitz (DSW) has found in an analysis of the 2025 fiscal year that the boards of the DAX-listed groups earn on average around 42 times as much as the employees of their companies.
For the evaluation, the DSW drew on the remuneration reports of the 40 DAX-listed groups and compared board compensation to the total wage sums of the workforces. According to this, the gap between the top management levels and the broader workforce continues to widen. The DSW speaks of a disparity that is increasingly viewed critically in public debate.
Board salaries themselves rose significantly in the 2025 fiscal year. According to DSW calculations, the compensation of board members increased on average by just under 30 percent, while the average compensation of employees in the DAX-listed groups grew only by a low single-digit percentage range. This arithmetically yields the ratio of approximately 42 to 1 cited by the DSW.
