In May 2026, only 61.3 percent of Deutsche Bahn's ICE and Intercity long-distance trains reached their destination on time, according to internal company data.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung first reported on the figures. According to the report, the punctuality rate in May was below the values of the two preceding months: in March it was still 62.1 percent, and in April 64.4 percent. The 60 percent mark was thus only narrowly exceeded again.

Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) commented cautiously on the current figures. "I believe we can be glad if we have a 6 in front, meaning we have punctuality of over 60 percent," the minister said. He added that he trusted the statement of Bahn CEO Evelyn Palla, "that we have reached the bottom."
