Berlin, June 25, 2026
Deutsche Bahn CEO Evelyn Palla presented a new corporate strategy in Berlin on Wednesday, aimed at reforming the state-owned company in three phases through the year 2035.
Deutsche Bahn has been in a deep crisis for years: poor punctuality and an increasingly dilapidated infrastructure have caused frustration among many passengers. Last year, only 60.1 percent of long-distance trains were on time. Group CEO Palla wants her new strategy to draw a line under unfulfillable promises and instead focus on realistic goals.
Three Phases Through 2035
Palla announced: "We are focusing radically on what we are here for: on rail and the travel experience of our customers. We are saying goodbye to unattainable promises. We are relying on realistic goals and facts." The new direction was fleshed out on Wednesday in the company's supervisory board and replaces earlier goals such as doubling passenger numbers.
