The Cologne engine manufacturer Deutz AG has agreed to purchase the Flensburg military vehicle manufacturer FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau GmbH for approximately 1.6 billion euros.

Largest acquisition in the company's history

With the takeover, Deutz intends to significantly expand its previously small defense business. FFG produces, maintains, and modernizes infantry fighting vehicles, personnel carriers, and other military vehicles. Among the company's customers are the Bundeswehr as well as 14 other NATO states.

The deal would be the largest acquisition in Deutz's roughly 160-year corporate history. The engine manufacturer was originally specialized in combustion engines for heavy equipment, such as cranes, aerial work platforms, and agricultural machinery, and also produces generators and emergency power systems. With the acquisition of FFG, the Cologne-based company intends, according to its own statements, to become a leading national systems provider for military vehicles, drives, and energy solutions.
