Frankfurt, 10 July 2026
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and his deputy Hans-Joachim Watzke have departed for New York to hold contract negotiations with Jürgen Klopp, the leading candidate to take over as Germany's national team head coach.
The two senior officials of the German Football Association (DFB) are expected to arrive in New York early Friday afternoon local time, according to dpa information. RTL and ntv first reported details of the flight route. The trip marks the most concrete step yet in the DFB's effort to fill the vacancy left by Julian Nagelsmann's resignation following Germany's elimination from the World Cup.
Klopp, 59, is the top candidate for the post. He has signaled his willingness to take on the national team job multiple times in recent days. Klopp was formerly the successful coach of Borussia Dortmund and FC Liverpool. His first matches in charge of Germany would come in September and October during the Nations League, with four games in ten days against the Netherlands, Serbia and Greece.
