Aue, 22 August 2026
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim won 2:0 against FC Erzgebirge Aue on 22 August 2026 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal and qualified for the next round of the competition.
Even before kick-off in Aue, Hoffenheim head coach Christian Ilzner had already set personnel accents. He had strengthened his squad in several positions over the summer and, for the cup task, deployed three new signings directly in the starting lineup. Wimmer and De Cat formed the wing pair, while the Dutchman Rots made his debut in TSG's back four.
Personnel decisions and debutants
The Kraichgau side dominated the opening phase and took an early lead. In midfield, a foul by Ozan Kabak on Aue's captain Marcel Bär initially went unpunished. Subsequently, Wouter Burger took a through ball from Wimmer and slotted home in the 17th minute to make it 2:0 for Hoffenheim. It was the visitors' second goal, which came courtesy of an assist from the winger.
