Following the World Cup debacle in America, Rudi Völler has confirmed he will remain as sporting director of the German Football Association (DFB) until Euro 2028, while the association is reportedly courting Jürgen Klopp with an enormous salary offer.
Völler stays until Euro 2028
The 66-year-old Völler had repeatedly stressed in recent weeks – despite the disappointing World Cup in America – that he wanted to fulfill his contract, which runs until Euro 2028. He has now officially confirmed to "BILD" that he will continue as DFB sporting director. There had previously been speculation about a premature departure after the German national team exited the tournament in the USA early.
Völler is considered a supporter of head coach Julian Nagelsmann and had recently himself questioned the latter's future. By deciding to stay in office, the separation from Nagelsmann is, from Völler's perspective, also the "right" course of action. He gave no details on the reasons for the separation, speaking only of a necessary consequence of the World Cup performance.
