Social networks have become the dominant news source among 18- to 24-year-olds in Austria, according to the "Digital News Report" published by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
Social Media Displaces Traditional TV News Among Younger Audiences
In this age group, 46.7 percent of respondents said social media was their most important destination for news — an increase of 13.6 percentage points compared with 2025, when the figure had stood at 33.1 percent. Traditional TV news, by contrast, reaches just 10.4 percent of younger respondents, while radio news reaches 13.3 percent. The findings thus fundamentally shift the ranking of main information channels in the youngest adult cohort.
