The application phase for the position of ORF Director-General starting in 2027 is now open, with political interests and internal power struggles dominating the discussion.
The ÖVP is actively involved in the search for a new ORF Director-General. Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker has invited several candidates to assess their suitability. Among the applicants are Clemens Pig, Philipp König, Lisa Totzauer, and Johannes Larcher.
Clemens Pig is considered Stocker’s favorite and is also supported by Tyrol’s Governor Anton Mattle. Pig delivered a keynote speech at the media summit in Seefeld on the 80-year history of the APA.
Nico Marchetti, Secretary-General of the ÖVP, has publicly expressed his preference for Pig. At the same time, criticism has been directed at the influence of Heinz Lederer (SPÖ) and Gregor Schütze, who are held responsible for the resignation of Roland Weißmann.
