After a bitter direction dispute, more than 30 MPs around former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki have left the Polish PiS. Party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski spoke in Warsaw on Friday of a de facto end to their membership and announced the formal expulsion by the Political Committee. The break is considered the most severe crisis of the right-wing conservative party since its founding in 2001 and could lead to the emergence of a new formation.

Following an escalated internal direction dispute, more than 30 MPs around former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki have left the right-wing conservative party Law and Justice (PiS), as party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski announced on Friday in Warsaw.

The chairman's words left nothing to be desired in terms of clarity. Before journalists in Warsaw, Jaroslaw Kaczynski declared with a grim expression: "Alles ist gelaufen", and pointed out that the formal decision on the expulsion of the rebellious parliamentarians would be made by the party's Political Committee in the coming week. He spoke of more than 30 MPs who had left the parliamentary group and had thus de facto lost their party membership. At the same time, he indicated that the break was an inevitable consequence of the affected individuals' refusal to sign a declaration of loyalty and to abandon the grouping "Rozwoj Plus".
