Flensburg, August 28, 2026
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt hosted interior ministers from several Baltic Sea littoral states in Flensburg on Thursday to discuss the threat posed by drones and the situation in the Baltic Sea.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the meeting on the edge of the Flensburger Förde served to exchange views on the security situation in the Baltic Sea region. Representatives from Helsinki and other littoral states traveled to discuss current incidents and possible countermeasures together with Dobrindt.
Drones as a Common Threat
The talks focused on drone incidents in the region. Finland had made clear in advance that drones were "nicht nur ein Problem der Frontstaaten" ("not only a problem of the frontline states"), as the Finnish Interior Ministry told NDR upon inquiry. Helsinki is therefore calling for a common situational picture and coordinated cross-border measures against the misuse of such aircraft.
