Austrian energy group Verbund recorded a decline in earnings in the first half of 2026 due to lower water levels and falling electricity prices, with the average sales price from its own hydropower dropping to 86.2 euros per megawatt hour.
Energy group Verbund has presented its figures for the first half of 2026, revealing the difficult underlying conditions. The average sales price achieved, based on its own hydropower generation, fell to 86.2 euros per megawatt hour. The company stated that this lower sales price had a negative impact on earnings development.
Price premium as a second burden
The company stated verbatim: "Negativ auf die Ergebnisentwicklung wirkte darüber hinaus der niedrigere durchschnittlich erzielte Absatzpreis bezogen auf die Eigenerzeugung aus Wasserkraft." This statement underscores that it was not only the weather but also market developments on the European electricity exchanges that weighed on the group.
