The incident began when the 21-year-old driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, overtook a police patrol at excessive speed on the Südautobahn (A2) near Laxenburg in the district of Mödling. Authorities confirmed the vehicle was traveling at 200 km/h—more than double the posted limit of 80 km/h.
After a pursuit, officers managed to stop the driver in Kottingbrunn, located in the district of Baden. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody without further incident. Police emphasized the extreme danger posed by such reckless driving, particularly given the driver’s intoxication and provisional license status.
