Ansfelden, July 11, 2026
A plainclothes patrol of the Upper Austrian State Traffic Department stopped a 42-year-old Italian national on the West Autobahn (A1) near Ansfelden on Friday evening. The man was driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.54 per mille and at 147 km/h instead of the permitted 100 km/h, and presented a forged driver's license ordered online.
The officers noticed the driver on Friday, July 10, 2026, at around 8:25 p.m. as he was driving well over the speed limit in the 100 km/h zone on the A1. According to the Upper Austrian State Traffic Department, the plainclothes patrol registered the vehicle at 147 km/h and initiated a stop at the Ansfelden rest area in the Linz-Land district.
During the subsequent check, the police officers noticed that the man appeared to be intoxicated and asked him to take a breathalyzer test. The result was 1.54 per mille. In addition, the officers determined that the presented driver's license from Hong Kong as well as an international driver's license were forgeries.
