Illegal street race on the A25: Speeder in Upper Austria caught at 162 km/h

According to police, the investigations are focused on the Leonding area as well as on Salzburger Straße, which serves as an access road to the highway section. Traces were also secured in Marchtrenk, another municipality in the Linz-Land district, as part of the investigation. The analysis of dashcam recordings and witness statements is ongoing.

According to the current state of the investigation, multiple individuals are being investigated on suspicion of forbidden motor vehicle races. Police announced that they would consistently pursue the cases and bring all relevant evidence, including measurement records and speed logs, into the proceedings.

The A25 connects the greater Linz area with surrounding districts and is considered a route on which speeding violations have repeatedly been recorded in the past. After a series of incidents, the authorities had recently intensified surveillance in this section.

Investigations against multiple suspects

According to police, the stop occurred without any injuries. Emergency personnel secured traces on site, including tire marks and the measurement records from the speed monitoring. The driving licenses of the drivers involved were seized that same night.

Representatives of the executive authority emphasized that illegal street races are considered serious violations of the road traffic regulations and can result in severe penalties. In addition to fines, such cases can also lead to the revocation of the driving license as well as criminal consequences.

The investigations are ongoing. Police are examining whether, in addition to the drivers involved, other individuals – for example as spectators or organizers – were also implicated in the incidents. Results are expected in the coming days.

Consequences and further controls

The city of Linz and the Linz-Land district had repeatedly drawn attention to the dangers of speeding in the past. Traffic experts see a recurring pattern in the incidents that requires targeted controls and technical surveillance.

From within the security authorities, it was stated that surveillance on the A25 and on Salzburger Straße would be maintained in the coming weeks. Further focused operations are being prepared.

The vehicles involved were seized and will undergo forensic technical examination as part of the investigation. Police asked any other potential witnesses to contact the nearest police station.
