During a heatwave in Austria, electric car batteries work particularly efficiently at around 30 degrees Celsius according to the Austrian Federal Association for Electromobility (BEÖ), but above this range range drops measurably.

Im Gegenteil: Bei etwa 30 Grad erreichen Batterien oft ihre optimale Leistungsfähigkeit“, explained Andreas Reinhardt, Chairman of the Austrian Federal Association for Electromobility (BEÖ), to APA. The reason is the ideal temperature window of the drive battery.

Unlike in winter, the energy storage does not first have to be heated up to its operating window in summer – this saves electricity and increases range. However, this rule of thumb only applies up to around 30 degrees. If outside temperatures climb higher, the picture reverses.
