The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) forecasts growth of 2.8 percent for Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe in 2026. Poland leads the EU with 3.7 percent, while Austria's exports to the region are rising sharply.
The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) sees the economy in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe growing robustly in 2026 despite the Iran war, with Poland leading the EU states with an increase of 3.7 percent.
Poland Leads, Romania Falls Behind
For the Visegrád states of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia, as well as Slovenia, the wiiw expects average growth of 2.8 percent in the current year. Poland stands out with a forecast increase of 3.7 percent, making it the EU leader. For 2027, the Vienna economists anticipate a slight slowdown to 2.4 percent in the eastern EU members.
