Braunschweig, 14 August 2026
VfL Bochum won their away match at Eintracht Braunschweig 1:0 on the second matchday of the 2. Bundesliga, handing the home side a setback in the promotion race.
First half is evenly contested
In front of around 20,000 spectators at the Eintracht-Stadion, a hard-fought encounter developed on Friday evening, with both teams initially adopting a cautious approach. The Lower Saxony side tried to advance into dangerous areas through possession and controlled passing sequences, while the Bochum players relied on quick counter-attacking moments and their own set pieces. Goal-scoring opportunities were scarce in the first half.
The hosts' best chance came from an attack down the left flank. Gerrit Holtmann delivered a precise cross into the penalty area, where Philipp Hofmann flicked it on with his head. The header was blocked, and the rebound fell to Takuma Miyoshi, who, however, shot over the bar from a promising position. The moment subsequently became a talking point regarding the Braunschweig attack's lack of composure in front of goal.
