Frankfurt, 30 August 2026
Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt and goalkeeper Michael Zetterer have confirmed their separation after one year together.
Farewell after a brief collaboration
The Frankfurt shot-stopper is thus leaving the club significantly earlier than originally expected. In a club statement, sporting director Timmo Hardung thanked the goalkeeper for his commitment and offered a farewell wish for his future path. „Für seinen weiteren persönlichen und sportlichen Weg wünschen wir ihm alles Gute und viel Erfolg“, said Hardung in the club statement. The club also issued a brief statement on the terms of the separation.
The club initially provided no additional details about the exact reasons for the early termination of what was originally planned as a longer-term engagement. Nor was there any official confirmation of a new club for Zetterer. Reports of interest from England, particularly from Leeds United, had caused a stir in recent weeks, although no concrete contract signing has yet materialized. Zetterer had only moved from Werder Bremen to Frankfurt the previous summer and was expected to stand between the posts there for several years.
