Cottbus, 14 August 2026

Second-division club Energie Cottbus will have to manage without its striker Erik Engelhardt for several months, after he suffered a serious injury according to the club.

The diagnosis comes at a delicate stage of pre-season preparations for the newly promoted side. As Energie Cottbus announced on Thursday, Erik Engelhardt — who with 22 goals and six assists last season was one of the key players in the promotion campaign — will be out for an indefinite period. According to the club, the injury is so severe that a break of several months is to be expected.

Coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz expressed his dismay over the loss of his striker on the sidelines of the announcement. „Damit müssen wir nun umgehen und auf diese Situation reagieren. Wir wünschen Panzer alles erdenklich Gute für die schwere Zeit“, said Wollitz. The nickname „Panzer“ is commonly used around the club for the striker.
