The EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) puts the annual losses from product counterfeits in Austria's clothing industry at EUR 580 million, with a further EUR 100 million added in the handbags, jewellery and watches segment.
The figures come from a recent survey by the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), published in a press release on Monday. According to the data, the damage to the domestic clothing industry amounts to approximately EUR 580 million per year. In addition, EUR 100 million are lost through counterfeits in handbags, jewellery and watches.
The EUIPO survey also draws attention to the broader European context. Across the Union, original manufacturers in the clothing industry lost EUR 12 billion, while in handbags, jewellery and watches the figure was around EUR 2.7 billion. The European market for counterfeit products therefore remains a significant economic risk factor for brand manufacturers.
