A Europe-wide survey commissioned by the EU shows that 74 percent of respondents consider EU membership beneficial, while in Austria approval has risen by 8 percentage points compared to five years ago.
According to the study conducted between April and May, in which 26,421 people over the age of 15 took part across Europe – including 1,003 in Austria – citizens rate the European Union predominantly positively. Three quarters of respondents see the EU as a place of stability in an uncertain world. Personal quality of life is described as satisfactory by 83 percent of respondents EU-wide and by 85 percent in Austria.
Despite this fundamentally positive mood, the survey also reveals uncertainty: 58 percent of respondents are pessimistic about the future of the world; in Austria, it is every second respondent. „Unsicherheit ist sowohl EU-weit als auch in Österreich der vorherrschende emotionale Zustand unter fast der Hälfte der Befragten“, the evaluation states.
