Berlin, 06 July 2026
An independent expert commission presented its report on the suspected left-wing extremist attack on Berlin's power grid in January 2026 at the Red Town Hall on Monday morning and recommended 150 individual measures to strengthen crisis resilience.
Scale of the Power Outage
According to the commission, the incident—which represents the largest power outage in Berlin since World War II—affected up to 100,000 people at times. Many of them had to go without electricity and heating for days, even though there was persistent frost outside. Approximately 45,000 households and 2,200 commercial businesses were left without supply.
The commission clearly describes the events at the beginning of the year as terror. Managing the situation pushed Berlin to its limits.
